Odds to Win the AL East Division
Caesars Maryland is the only sportsbook we located that had odds for “To Win Division.” Caesars prices the Orioles at +2800 to win the competitive American League East. Last season, the New York Yankees won the division, and two other teams, the Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays, also made the playoffs. Caesars’ oddsmakers strap Baltimore with the longest odds of the five teams in the AL East. In 2022, the O’s won 83 games and finished fourth.
Caesars Maryland is offering a $1,500 Free Bet for new customers. If your first bet with Caesars is from $20 to $100, you will get a free $100 bet, whether that wager wins or loses. If your bet is over $100, you get that amount back in free bets, up to $1,500. This offer requires a promo code, which you can get exclusively here at Maryland Sharp.
You’ll also eventually get a chance to wager on Wins Totals for the Orioles, or any MLB team for the 2023 season. Currently, the Orioles are listed at U/U 77.5 wins at -110. This should change once the winter meetings shuffle rosters, and as we near spring training in February of 2023.
Will the Orioles be a Playoff Team in 2023?
Even though Baltimore is in baseball’s toughest division, the team can secure a playoff spot next season. We just saw three teams from the AL East get into the postseason this last season, and in the last five years, four of the five teams in the division have made the playoffs.
Young Stars in the Lineup
The Orioles have a talented foundation of young players, led by Rookie of the Year runner-up Adley Rutschman, who finished 12th in the league in MVP voting. Rutschman has the skills to be the best defensive catcher in the game, and the bat speed to smack 30+ homers. We’re not saying he’s the next Johnny Bench, but being the first Adley Rutschamn is probably going to be enough for the O’s catcher to be a superstar.
But there’s more: Ryan Mountcastle will be entering his third full season in 2023, and he’s hit 55 homers in the last two years combined. Toss in All-Star center fielder Cedric Mullins, and the emergence of right fielder Anthony Santander (33 jacks in 2023), and the lineup is formidable.
The O’s are thrilled at the potential of Gunnar Henderson, who is projected to play either shortstop or third base. The 21-year-old may be the next great player to come out of Alabama, following the tradition set by Henry Aaron, Willie Mays, Ozzie Smith, and others. Henderson made his MLB debut in August, and he didn’t look overmatched at the plate. He’s the best left-side infield prospect to come out of the Baltimore system since Manny Machado.
At some point in 2023, you’ll probably see rookies Kyle Stowers and Colton Cowser, two more promising outfielders, wearing the orange and black.
Help in Free Agency?
The Orioles must replenish their starting rotation. Only one of their primary starters from 2022 is under contract (Jordan Lyles), and he may not be asked back. That’s why some observers think the O’s may target Jacob deGrom, the highly-touted ace from the Mets, who is an unrestricted free agent.
Baltimore has a low commitment in salary for 2023 and 2024, which means they could sign deGrom or another top free agent starter. They may also target shortstop Carlos Correa, and move Henderson to third base.
However the Orioles spend or deal this offseason, the core of young players makes them an interesting MLB team to watch for 2023.
