The Maryland Terrapins are coming off their worst season since joining the Big Ten in 2014, having won just seven conference games and getting bounced by Michigan State in the second round of the conference tournament.
It was just three seasons ago when Maryland, along with Michigan and Wisconsin, won the most regular season games against conference opponents. Fast forward three seasons and they now look to bounce back from back-to-back lost seasons.
Sportsbooks have posted odds for the basketball program from College Park to win the regular season championship, though they aren’t pretty.

Betting on the Terrapins and Other Maryland Sports
The Terps are of course long shots to win all future bets for the upcoming season, but that doesn’t mean they won’t catch the eyes of American bettors. Maryland is set to become the next state that holds legal sports wagering, and people in the Old Line State are as stoked as ever.
Maryland sports betting is expected to launch between late 2022 and early 2023, which means it won’t be long until Maryland folks can start wagering on their favorite in-state collegiate teams, including the Terrapins.
The Maryland sports betting industry is quite competitive, so sportsbooks are offering special betting bonuses to make sure their users are in good hands. Once given the green light, players should take advantage of the best betting bonuses from Maryland sportsbooks before jumping into the action right away.
All you need to know: Answers to the biggest Maryland sports betting questions
Terps Hire New Head Coach
After enjoying the services of Mark Turgeon for 11 seasons, Maryland will now welcome Kevin Willard as the team’s new head coach. Willard coached the Seton Hall Pirates to seven straight seasons without a losing conference record. He can clearly raise the floor of a basketball program, but can he also raise the ceiling?
Well, Willard demonstrated just that when Seton Hall became the 2020 regular season champion — the program’s first regular season title since 1993.

Transfer Guards May Boost Offense
Maryland’s biggest addition — and likely best player — is Charlotte transfer Jahmir Young, who figures to be somewhat of an upgrade from former Terp guard Fatts Russell, especially on offense.
A two-time first-team All-Conference USA point guard, Young averaged 19.6 points per game last season and provides a scoring punch to a team that just lost its two leading scorers from last season.
Also joining Terrapins Basketball is Georgetown transfer Don Carey. The Maryland native is a two-way guard who shot 40.9% from beyond the arc and played reliable defense (1.3 steals per game) in his two seasons at Georgetown.
Maryland was a mediocre team at both three-point shooting and defense last season. The team shot at a poor 32.7% clip from downtown and allowed the third-most points in Big Ten conference games.
Adding a player like Carey, who was also a team captain for Georgetown and won last season’s Big East Sportsmanship Award), will immediately polish up many areas of the team’s game and will surely contribute to the win column.
