Nearly $500 Million Wagered With Maryland Sports Betting in December

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission announced on Tuesday that mobile sports betting brought in a handle of $478 million in December. It was the first full month of mobile sports betting in the state of Maryland.

The combined handle includes $70.9 million in free promotional wagers, that amount is deducted from taxable winnings. For the first year, there is no limit on the amount of promotional play, but after the first fiscal year promotional play deductions can’t exceed 20% of the previous year’s taxable winnings.

With that, mobile sports wagering contributed $44,791 to the state in taxes during the month.
